MECHANICAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT

 
INTRODUCTION
The Department is the only one which constitutes four Sections in the Polytechnic. It has the aim to train students who intend to be qualified as Engineers, Technician Engineers and Technicians in the Mechanical Engineering Industry. At the end of the programme, students would have acquired the skills to:
i)     Use  machines and hand tools for manufacturing
ii)    Diagnose and repair  faults in automobile/Heavy Duty Equipment
iii)   Design and cast components from metals
iv)   Repair and maintain plants or machines
v)    Manage a shop (Machine shop, Foundry shop,Automobile garages)
 Students from the Department aspire to attain positions of responsibility involving work in production planning, work study shop and process control, plant maintenance, supervisory duties and other forms of specialisation on the Mechanical Engineering Industry. Some are employed as Transport Officers, Vehicle Inspectors and Valuers, Reception Engineers and Workshop Managers after school.
 
TEACHING
The Department runs three-year HND programmes, under the modular course structure. These include the following:
i) Production Engineering
ii) Plant Engineering
iii) Automotive Engineering
iv) Metallurgy and Foundry
It also offers Mechanical Engineering Technicians, and Motor Vehicle Technicians programmes.
