Mechanical Engineering
INTRODUCTION
The Department is the only one which constitutes four Sections in the Polytechnic. It has the aim to train students who intend to be qualified as Engineers, Technician Engineers and Technicians in the Mechanical Engineering Industry. At the end of the programme, students would have acquired the skills to:

<!--[if !supportLists]-->ii) <!--[endif]-->Diagnose and repair faults in automobile/Heavy Duty Equipment
<!--[if !supportLists]-->iii) <!--[endif]-->Design and cast components from metals
<!--[if !supportLists]-->iv) <!--[endif]-->Repair and maintain plants or machines
<!--[if !supportLists]-->v) <!--[endif]-->Manage a shop (Machine shop, Foundry shop,Automobile garages)
Students from the Department aspire to attain positions of responsibility involving work in production planning, work study shop and process control, plant maintenance, supervisory duties and other forms of specialisation on the Mechanical Engineering Industry. Some are employed as Transport Officers, Vehicle Inspectors and Valuers, Reception Engineers and Workshop Managers after school.

INCOME GENERATION
The Auto Section undertakes maintenance/servicing and repair works on vehicles for the polytechnic member and the general public.
The Production Section has taken steps to revive the Manufacturing or Production Unit established some few years ago. Meanwhile the department undertakes Welding and fabrication projects especially for the polytechnic and staff. It plans to make these areas very vibrant.
