Accountancy & Computerized Accounting
STAFF STRENGTH
The department has 14 full time lecturers including on two lecturers on contract appointment. We also have one lecturer on study leave pursuing a Doctorate degree.
PROGRAMS
The department currently runs one programme namely: Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accountancy. In addition to the normal HND programme, there is also an Evening programme in HND Accountancy.
COMPUTERIZED ACCOUNTING
The Department has been accredited as Authorized Training Centre by SAGE Pastel to train users in Pastel Partner, Sage Line 50 and other SAGE Accounting software. The Department has also been authorized by Intuit UK, a software provider in the United Kingdom to provide training in QuickBooks Accounting Software.
PROPOSED DEGREE PROGRAMME
The Department designed a syllabus for Bsc. in Computerized Accounting and applied to the National Council for Tertiary Education and the National Accreditation Board to start running a degree programme in Computerized Accounting. Unfortunately, the National Council for Tertiary Education refused to give approval for the commencement of this innovative programme in the 2008/2009 academic year. We hope to continue the search for accreditation to commence the programme in the next academic year.
CENTRE FOR COMPUTERIZED ACCOUNTING AND CONSULTING
The Department has seen the need to establish an income generation unit for Computerized Accounting and Consulting. The unit will use the capacities of the Department to exploit the immense potential in the emerging field of Computerized Accounting. It will also provide Auditing, Tax and other related consultancy services. A proposal has been sent to Management on this issue.
