The Governing Council of the Kumasi Polytechnic has endorsed the appointment of Professor N. N. N. Nsowah-Nuamah as the new rector of the institute.

58-seater Tata bus valued at 500 million cedis is presented to the Kumasi Polytechnic by the GETfund Board in Kumasi.

Two visiting Canadian Professors have arrived at the Kumasi Polytechnic to provide training programmes with the view to building the capacity of staff of the polytechnic.

The Kumasi Polytechnic has a new faculty, the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, which is to provide specialized manpower training for the health sector. The new faculty will also train Laboratory Technicians, Dispensing Technologists, Nursing and other health related professionals.

The Kumasi Polytechnic (K-Poly) is to be relocated to Kuntenase in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region. Currently, the polytechnic has acquired a 300-acre land at Kuntenase, some 10 km from Kumasi for the purpose, and surveyors are in the process of demarcating the land whiles financing is sought for actual construction work to begin.

The Kumasi Polytechnic (K-Poly) has been admitted into the Association of African Universities (AAU) as a full member, with effect from July 1, 2011. K-Poly becomes the 264th member and the second Polytechnic in Africa, after the Polytechnic of Namibian, to be accepted by the AAU as a full member.

The Kumasi Polytechnic would from next academic year start degree programmes in Petrochemical Engineering and four other areas of study, Professor Nicholas Nsowaah-Nuamah, the Rector, said. These include Nursing, Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Medical Laboratory Science and Industrial Laboratory.

Chipscare Services Limited, suppliers of office equipment, stationary and IT facilities management has donated three pieces of low reflect whiteboard and 100 pieces of refillable whiteboard markers to the Kumasi Polytechnic.

A consignment of books, which were donated by a group of Scottish professors to the Kumasi Polytechnic, has been presented to the institution’s library at a short ceremony.

The Kumasi Polytechnic wishes to inform all prospective students that sale of HND and BTech application forms has ended. However, sale of Non-HND forms continues until further notice.

AKTECH Suppliers and Logistics, local representatives of AMATROL INC. of the United States, has presented five brand new Toshiba laptops to the Kumasi Polytechnic. The laptops which cost about GH₵1,450 each (GH₵7,200 altogether) were purposely for the benefit of staff of Mechanical and Electrical departments of the Polytechnic.

The Kumasi Polytechnic is to run a three-year PhD programme in Statistics with effect from the 2012/2013 academic year. In this regard, the Polytechnic is collaborating with the Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone - Freetown, which has a strong Statistics faculty, to run the programme

RAINCOAT Roofing Systems Limited, an Accra-based roofing sheet manufacturing company is to offer a scholarship package to the best Engineering student in the Kumasi Polytechnic, as part of its social responsibility. The Human Resource Manager of the company Ms. Sarah Ewurama Quarshie, who informed the management of Kumasi Polytechnic when she visited the institution said, even though the fine details of the scholarship package were yet to be worked out, the management of the company has made a firm decision to implement it.

The Kumasi Polytechnic has welcomed Professor Joseph Aruna Lawrence Kamara, a Sierra Leonean Statistician and researcher as Visiting Professor for four weeks. Professor Kamara, who is the head of the Department of Mathematics at Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, Freetown, has extensive knowledge in Mathematical Demography, Statistics and Statistical Modelling.

The fourth edition of the annual higher education fair organised by the Canadian High Commission in Ghana, will, for the first time be organised Kumasi. Accra will also host one according to the organisers. The Kumasi edition of the fair comes off on 2nd February, 2012 at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and the Kumasi Polytechnic has received an early invitation from the High Commission of Canada in Accra.

The Kumasi Polytechnic yesterday bid farewell to Professor Joseph Lawrence Aruna Kamara of the University of Sierra Leone, Fourah Bay College, whose one month stay in Kumasi as visiting Professor has ended.

The Kumasi Polytechnic, on Tuesday 15th November, 2011 formally out-doored three new faculties at the institution’s 19th Matriculation ceremony. The new faculties are the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Faculty of Built and Natural Environment and the Faculty of Creative Art and Technology. This brings the number of faculties and institutes at the Polytechnic to seven. The others are the Faculty of Applied Science, Faculty of Business and Management Studies, Faculty of Engineering and the Institute of Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development.

The SIC Financial Services Limited, the brokerage and investment arm of the State Insurance Company has won the bid to manage the Provident Fund of Kumasi Polytechnic which is currently valued at about GH₵500,000 (five billion old Ghana Cedi). An agreement to that effect has been signed between the two entities at the Polytechnic’s premises in Kumasi.

The Kumasi Polytechnic has signed a joint venture agreement with SongTech Company Limited of China which will pave the way for the two partners to set up an US$11 million plant to assemble electrical and electronic equipment. Under the agreement, K-Poly and SongTech are to set up the K-PST Electronics Company Limited, an entity that will oversee the assembly of the K-PST brand of laptops, desktop computers, mobile phones and television sets for the Ghanaian and West African markets.

Relief was the one word that was on the lips of management, staff, students and even graduands as the much anticipated 7th Congregation of Kumasi Polytechnic passed off peacefully last December without any hitch. What is even surprising is the praise being heaped on organizers of the congregation for the meticulous planning and execution of the programme which has won the admiration of many skeptics.
